Air France Statement
“Air France confirms that the crew of flight AF703 on 9th March from Abidjan to Paris-CDG by Airbus A380 decided to turn back to Abidjan at the beginning of the cruise phase following a malfunction of one of the 4 engines. The aircraft landed normally in Abidjan at 01:18 (universal time).
The engine had suffered a compressor stall.”
A photo of the engine after landing shows damage to several fan blades as well as damage to the interior of the engine cowling. It also demonstrates the unique design containing the damage and prevention of a potential catadioptric accident.
We should also point thanks to the professional crew of AF703 for safely returning the pax back to Abidjan.
